A House in Paradise

“My Lord! Build for me a house with You in Paradise, and save me from Pharaoh and his deeds, and save me from the wrongdoing people.”
Forms: the verbs “ibni lee” (ابن لي — build for me) and “najjinee” (نجني — save me). An example of the greatest of women, who placed nearness to Allah in Paradise above all the treasures of Egypt.
Tafsir of Sheikh Abd al-Rahman al-Saadi
Sheikh as-Saadi writes: “Asiya, the wife of Pharaoh, chose nearness to Allah (nearness to Him in Paradise) before the house itself. She renounced the palaces and luxury of Egypt for the sake of faith in the Most High.”
Tafsir of Imam Ibn Kathir
Ibn Kathir points out: “When Pharaoh tortured her in the sun for her faith, Allah opened her sight, and she saw her emerald house in Paradise, whereupon she smiled and her soul departed from her body.”
Tafsir al-Baghawi
And Allah, Exalted is He, said: “…And Allah presents an example for those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh…” whose name was Asiya, daughter of Muzahim.
The commentators on the Qur’an said: When Musa defeated the sorcerers, Pharaoh’s wife believed. When Pharaoh learned that his wife had devoted herself to Allah, he crucified her by her hands and feet on four stakes and left her in the sun.
Salman said: Pharaoh’s wife was tortured by being left under the open sun, but when they had gone away, the angels provided shade for her.
“…When she said: ‘My Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise…’” Allah, Exalted is He, showed her her house in Paradise, and she saw it while still alive.
“…and save me from Pharaoh and his deeds…”” Muqatil said: “‘His deeds’ means associating partners with Allah.” Abu Salih, transmitting from Ibn ‘Abbas, said: “‘His deeds’ means intimacy with him.” “…and save me from the wrongdoing people!”” — from the disbelievers.
In “Sahih al-Bukhari” (No. 3411) it is narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him): “Many men attained perfection, but among women only Maryam, the daughter of Imran, and Asiya, the wife of Pharaoh, attained perfection.”
